BACKPORT: sysctl: pass kernel pointers to ->proc_handler
Instead of having all the sysctl handlers deal with user pointers, which
is rather hairy in terms of the BPF interaction, copy the input to and
from userspace in common code. This also means that the strings are
always NUL-terminated by the common code, making the API a little bit
safer.

As most handler just pass through the data to one of the common handlers
a lot of the changes are mechnical.

59892d18dd xprtrdma: fix pointer derefs in error cases of rpcrdma_ep_create
commit a9c10b5b3b67b3750a10c8b089b2e05f5e176e33 upstream.

If there are failures then we must not leave the non-NULL pointers with
the error value, otherwise `rpcrdma_ep_destroy` gets confused and tries

88dec58190 sunrpc: update nextcheck time when adding new cache entries
[ Upstream commit 5ca00634c8bbb2979c73465588f486b9632f5ed5 ]

The cache_detail structure uses a "nextcheck" field to control hash table
scanning intervals. When a table scan begins, nextcheck is set to current
time plus 1800 seconds. During scanning, if cache_detail is not empty and
a cache entry's expiry time is earlier than the current nextcheck, the
nextcheck is updated to that expiry time.

This mechanism ensures that:
1) Empty cache_details are scanned every 1800 seconds to avoid unnecessary
   scans
2) Non-empty cache_details are scanned based on the earliest expiry time
   found

However, when adding a new cache entry to an empty cache_detail, the
nextcheck time was not being updated, remaining at 1800 seconds. This
could delay cache cleanup for up to 1800 seconds, potentially blocking
threads(such as nfsd) that are waiting for cache cleanup.

Fix this by updating the nextcheck time whenever a new cache entry is
added.

I believe EIO was a typo at the time: it should have been EAGAIN.

Subsequently, commit 0445f92c5d ("SUNRPC: Fix disconnection races")
changed that to ENOTCONN.

Rather than trying to keep the comment here in sync with the code in

e9be26735d SUNRPC: make sure cache entry active before cache_show
commit 2862eee078a4d2d1f584e7f24fa50dddfa5f3471 upstream.

The function `c_show` was called with protection from RCU. This only
ensures that `cp` will not be freed. Therefore, the reference count for
`cp` can drop to zero, which will trigger a refcount use-after-free
warning when `cache_get` is called. To resolve this issue, use
`cache_get_rcu` to ensure that `cp` remains active.

934247ea65 net, sunrpc: Remap EPERM in case of connection failure in xs_tcp_setup_socket
commit 626dfed5fa3bfb41e0dffd796032b555b69f9cde upstream.

When using a BPF program on kernel_connect(), the call can return -EPERM. This
causes xs_tcp_setup_socket() to loop forever, filling up the syslog and causing
the kernel to potentially freeze up.

Neil suggested:

This will propagate -EPERM up into other layers which might not be ready
to handle it. It might be safer to map EPERM to an error we would be more
likely to expect from the network system - such as ECONNREFUSED or ENETDOWN.

ECONNREFUSED as error seems reasonable. For programs setting a different error
can be out of reach (see handling in 4fbac77d2d) in particular on kernels
which do not have f10d05966196 ("bpf: Make BPF_PROG_RUN_ARRAY return -err
instead of allow boolean"), thus given that it is better to simply remap for
consistent behavior. UDP does handle EPERM in xs_udp_send_request().

0860bad4a4 SUNRPC: Fix a race to wake a sync task
[ Upstream commit ed0172af5d6fc07d1b40ca82f5ca3979300369f7 ]

We've observed NFS clients with sync tasks sleeping in __rpc_execute
waiting on RPC_TASK_QUEUED that have not responded to a wake-up from
rpc_make_runnable(). I suspect this problem usually goes unnoticed,
because on a busy client the task will eventually be re-awoken by another
task completion or xprt event. However, if the state manager is draining
the slot table, a sync task missing a wake-up can result in a hung client.

We've been able to prove that the waker in rpc_make_runnable() successfully
calls wake_up_bit() (ie- there's no race to tk_runstate), but the
wake_up_bit() call fails to wake the waiter. I suspect the waker is
missing the load of the bit's wait_queue_head, so waitqueue_active() is
false. There are some very helpful comments about this problem above
wake_up_bit(), prepare_to_wait(), and waitqueue_active().

Fix this by inserting smp_mb__after_atomic() before the wake_up_bit(),
which pairs with prepare_to_wait() calling set_current_state().

feed3fcb6f SUNRPC: avoid soft lockup when transmitting UDP to reachable server.
[ Upstream commit 6258cf25d5e3155c3219ab5a79b970eef7996356 ]

Prior to the commit identified below, call_transmit_status() would
handle -EPERM and other errors related to an unreachable server by
falling through to call_status() which added a 3-second delay and
handled the failure as a timeout.

Since that commit, call_transmit_status() falls through to
handle_bind(). For UDP this moves straight on to handle_connect() and
handle_transmit() so we immediately retransmit - and likely get the same
error.

This results in an indefinite loop in __rpc_execute() which triggers a
soft-lockup warning.

For the errors that indicate an unreachable server,
call_transmit_status() should fall back to call_status() as it did
before. This cannot cause the thundering herd that the previous patch
was avoiding, as the call_status() will insert a delay.

7d61d1da2e SUNRPC: Fix RPC client cleaned up the freed pipefs dentries
commit bfca5fb4e97c46503ddfc582335917b0cc228264 upstream.

RPC client pipefs dentries cleanup is in separated rpc_remove_pipedir()
workqueue, which takes care about pipefs superblock locking.
In some special scenarios, when kernel frees the pipefs sb of the
current client and immediately alloctes a new pipefs sb,
rpc_remove_pipedir function would misjudge the existence of pipefs
sb which is not the one it used to hold. As a result,
the rpc_remove_pipedir would clean the released freed pipefs dentries.

To fix this issue, rpc_remove_pipedir should check whether the
current pipefs sb is consistent with the original pipefs sb.

b1589a6eef sunrpc: fix NFSACL RPC retry on soft mount
[ Upstream commit 0dc9f430027b8bd9073fdafdfcdeb1a073ab5594 ]

It used to be quite awhile ago since 1b63a75180 ('SUNRPC: Refactor
rpc_clone_client()'), in 2012, that `cl_timeout` was copied in so that
all mount parameters propagate to NFSACL clients. However since that
change, if mount options as follows are given:

    soft,timeo=50,retrans=16,vers=3

The resultant NFSACL client receives:

    cl_softrtry: 1
    cl_timeout: to_initval=60000, to_maxval=60000, to_increment=0, to_retries=2, to_exponential=0

These values lead to NFSACL operations not being retried under the
condition of transient network outages with soft mount. Instead, getacl
call fails after 60 seconds with EIO.

The simple fix is to pass the existing client's `cl_timeout` as the new
client timeout.

Based on the way that the ->pages[] array is constructed in
gss_read_proxy_verf(), we know that once the loop encounters a NULL
page pointer, the remaining array elements must also be NULL.

The problem seems to be that two out of three callers aren't taking the
rcu_read_lock() before calling the list_for_each_entry_rcu() function in
rpc_xprt_switch_has_addr(). I fix this by having
rpc_xprt_switch_has_addr() unconditionaly take the rcu_read_lock(),
which is okay to do recursively in the case that the lock has already
been taken by a caller.

commit 3f649ab728cda8038259d8f14492fe400fbab911 upstream.

Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1]

(e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized,
either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes.

In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining
needless uses with the following script:

9bf843683a SUNRPC: remove the maximum number of retries in call_bind_status
[ Upstream commit 691d0b782066a6eeeecbfceb7910a8f6184e6105 ]

Currently call_bind_status places a hard limit of 3 to the number of
retries on EACCES error. This limit was done to prevent NLM unlock
requests from being hang forever when the server keeps returning garbage.
However this change causes problem for cases when NLM service takes
longer than 9 seconds to register with the port mapper after a restart.

This patch removes this hard coded limit and let the RPC handles
the retry based on the standard hard/soft task semantics.

1d449cd240 SUNRPC: ensure the matching upcall is in-flight upon downcall
[ Upstream commit b18cba09e374637a0a3759d856a6bca94c133952 ]

Commit 9130b8dbc6 ("SUNRPC: allow for upcalls for the same uid
but different gss service") introduced `auth` argument to
__gss_find_upcall(), but in gss_pipe_downcall() it was left as NULL
since it (and auth->service) was not (yet) determined.

When multiple upcalls with the same uid and different service are
ongoing, it could happen that __gss_find_upcall(), which returns the
first match found in the pipe->in_downcall list, could not find the
correct gss_msg corresponding to the downcall we are looking for.
Moreover, it might return a msg which is not sent to rpc.gssd yet.

We could see mount.nfs process hung in D state with multiple mount.nfs
are executed in parallel. The call trace below is of CentOS 7.9
kernel-3.10.0-1160.24.1.el7.x86_64 but we observed the same hang w/
elrepo kernel-ml-6.0.7-1.el7.

PID: 71258 TASK: ffff91ebd4be0000 CPU: 36 COMMAND: "mount.nfs"

 #9 [ffff9203ca323820] rpc_execute at ffffffffc0420a48 [sunrpc]

The scenario is like this. Let's say there are two upcalls for
services A and B, A -> B in pipe->in_downcall, B -> A in pipe->pipe.

When rpc.gssd reads pipe to get the upcall msg corresponding to
service B from pipe->pipe and then writes the response, in
gss_pipe_downcall the msg corresponding to service A will be picked
because only uid is used to find the msg and it is before the one for
B in pipe->in_downcall. And the process waiting for the msg
corresponding to service A will be woken up.

Actual scheduing of that process might be after rpc.gssd processes the
next msg. In rpc_pipe_generic_upcall it clears msg->errno (for A).
The process is scheduled to see gss_msg->ctx == NULL and
gss_msg->msg.errno == 0, therefore it cannot break the loop in
gss_create_upcall and is never woken up after that.

This patch adds a simple check to ensure that a msg which is not
sent to rpc.gssd yet is not chosen as the matching upcall upon
receiving a downcall.

I found that NFSD's new NFSv3 READDIRPLUS XDR encoder was screwing up
right at the end of the page array. xdr_get_next_encode_buffer() does
not compute the value of xdr->end correctly:

 * The check to see if we're on the final available page in xdr->buf

2f8f6c393b SUNRPC: Ensure we flush any closed sockets before xs_xprt_free()
From: Trond Myklebust <trond.myklebust@hammerspace.com>

We must ensure that all sockets are closed before we call xprt_free()

calling fput() will defer closing the socket until delayed_fput() gets

Let's fix the situation by allowing rpciod and the transport teardown
