UPSTREAM: file: let pick_file() tell caller it's done
Let pick_file() report back that the fd it was passed exceeded the
maximum fd in that fdtable. This allows us to simplify the caller of
this helper because it doesn't need to care anymore whether the passed
in max_fd is excessive. It can rely on pick_file() telling it that it's
past the last valid fd.

UPSTREAM: maccess: unexport probe_kernel_write()
Patch series "clean up and streamline probe_kernel_* and friends", v4.

This series start cleaning up the safe kernel and user memory probing
helpers in mm/maccess.c, and then allows architectures to implement the
kernel probing without overriding the address space limit and temporarily
allowing access to user memory. It then switches x86 over to this new
mechanism by reusing the unsafe_* uaccess logic.

This version also switches to the saner copy_{from,to}_kernel_nofault
naming suggested by Linus.

I kept the x86 helpers as-is without calling unsage_{get,put}_user as that
avoids a number of hard to trace casts, and it will still work with the
asm-goto based version easily.

This patch (of 20):

probe_kernel_write() is not used by any modular code.

UPSTREAM: bpf: Use strncpy_from_unsafe_strict() in bpf_seq_printf() helper
In bpf_seq_printf() helper, when user specified a "%s" in the
format string, strncpy_from_unsafe() is used to read the actual string
to a buffer. The string could be a format string or a string in
the kernel data structure. It is really unlikely that the string
will reside in the user memory.

This is different from Commit b2a5212fb634 ("bpf: Restrict bpf_trace_printk()'s %s
usage and add %pks, %pus specifier") which still used
strncpy_from_unsafe() for "%s" to preserve the old behavior.

If in the future, bpf_seq_printf() indeed needs to read user
memory, we can implement "%pus" format string.

Based on discussion in [1], if the intent is to read kernel memory,
strncpy_from_unsafe_strict() should be used. So this patch
changed to use strncpy_from_unsafe_strict().

UPSTREAM: rcu-tasks: Selectively enable more RCU Tasks Trace IPIs
Many workloads are quite sensitive to IPIs, and such workloads should
build kernels with CONFIG_TASKS_TRACE_RCU_READ_MB=y to prevent RCU
Tasks Trace from using them under normal conditions. However, other
workloads are quite happy to permit more IPIs if doing so makes BPF
program updates go faster. This commit therefore sets the default
value for the rcupdate.rcu_task_ipi_delay kernel parameter to zero for
kernels that have been built with CONFIG_TASKS_TRACE_RCU_READ_MB=n,
while retaining the old default of (HZ / 10) for kernels that have
indicated an aversion to IPIs via CONFIG_TASKS_TRACE_RCU_READ_MB=y.

UPSTREAM: rcu-tasks: Provide boot parameter to delay IPIs until late in grace period
This commit provides a rcupdate.rcu_task_ipi_delay kernel boot parameter
that specifies how old the RCU tasks trace grace period must be before
the grace-period kthread starts sending IPIs. This delay allows more
tasks to pass through rcu_tasks_qs() quiescent states, thus reducing
(or even eliminating) the number of IPIs that must be sent.

On a short rcutorture test setting this kernel boot parameter to HZ/2
resulted in zero IPIs for all 877 RCU-tasks trace grace periods that
elapsed during that test.

UPSTREAM: sched/core: Add function to sample state of locked-down task
A running task's state can be sampled in a consistent manner (for example,
for diagnostic purposes) simply by invoking smp_call_function_single()
on its CPU, which may be obtained using task_cpu(), then having the
IPI handler verify that the desired task is in fact still running.
However, if the task is not running, this sampling can in theory be done
immediately and directly. In practice, the task might start running at
any time, including during the sampling period. Gaining a consistent
sample of a not-running task therefore requires that something be done
to lock down the target task's state.

This commit therefore adds a try_invoke_on_locked_down_task() function
that invokes a specified function if the specified task can be locked
down, returning true if successful and if the specified function returns
true. Otherwise this function simply returns false. Given that the
function passed to try_invoke_on_nonrunning_task() might be invoked with
a runqueue lock held, that function had better be quite lightweight.

The function is passed the target task's task_struct pointer and the
argument passed to try_invoke_on_locked_down_task(), allowing easy access
to task state and to a location for further variables to be passed in
and out.

Note that the specified function will be called even if the specified
task is currently running. The function can use ->on_rq and task_curr()
to quickly and easily determine the task's state, and can return false
if this state is not to the function's liking. The caller of the
try_invoke_on_locked_down_task() would then see the false return value,
and could take appropriate action, for example, trying again later or
sending an IPI if matters are more urgent.

It is expected that use cases such as the RCU CPU stall warning code will
simply return false if the task is currently running. However, there are
use cases involving nohz_full CPUs where the specified function might
instead fall back to an alternative sampling scheme that relies on heavier
synchronization (such as memory barriers) in the target task.

respoected, i.e. unbound sockets are returned, and bound sockets aren't

VRF binding is determined by the sdif argument to sk_lookup(), however
when called from tc the IP SKB control block isn't initialized and thus
inet{,6}_sdif() always returns 0.

Fix by calculating sdif for the tc/xdp flows by observing the device's
l3 enslaved state.

The cg/sk_skb hooking points which are expected to support
inet{,6}_sdif() pass sdif=-1 which makes __bpf_skc_lookup() use the

UPSTREAM: inet: Run SK_LOOKUP BPF program on socket lookup
Run a BPF program before looking up a listening socket on the receive path.
Program selects a listening socket to yield as result of socket lookup by
calling bpf_sk_assign() helper and returning SK_PASS code. Program can
revert its decision by assigning a NULL socket with bpf_sk_assign().

Alternatively, BPF program can also fail the lookup by returning with
SK_DROP, or let the lookup continue as usual with SK_PASS on return, when
no socket has been selected with bpf_sk_assign().

This lets the user match packets with listening sockets freely at the last
possible point on the receive path, where we know that packets are destined
for local delivery after undergoing policing, filtering, and routing.

With BPF code selecting the socket, directing packets destined to an IP
range or to a port range to a single socket becomes possible.

In case multiple programs are attached, they are run in series in the order
in which they were attached. The end result is determined from return codes
of all the programs according to following rules:

 1. If any program returned SK_PASS and selected a valid socket, the socket
is used as result of socket lookup.
 2. If more than one program returned SK_PASS and selected a socket,
    last selection takes effect.
 3. If any program returned SK_DROP, and no program returned SK_PASS and
selected a socket, socket lookup fails with -ECONNREFUSED.
 4. If all programs returned SK_PASS and none of them selected a socket,
socket lookup continues to htable-based lookup.

UPSTREAM: bpf: Check correct cred for CAP_SYSLOG in bpf_dump_raw_ok()
When evaluating access control over kallsyms visibility, credentials at
open() time need to be used, not the "current" creds (though in BPF's
case, this has likely always been the same). Plumb access to associated
file->f_cred down through bpf_dump_raw_ok() and its callers now that
kallsysm_show_value() has been refactored to take struct cred.

BACKPORT: bpf: Inherit expanded/patched seen count from old aux data
[ Upstream commit d203b0fd863a2261e5d00b97f3d060c4c2a6db71 ]

Instead of relying on current env->pass_cnt, use the seen count from the
old aux data in adjust_insn_aux_data(), and expand it to the new range of
patched instructions. This change is valid given we always expand 1:n
with n>=1, so what applies to the old/original instruction needs to apply
for the replacement as well.

Not relying on env->pass_cnt is a prerequisite for a later change where we
want to avoid marking an instruction seen when verified under speculative
execution path.

UPSTREAM: bpf: fix precision backtracking instruction iteration
commit 4bb7ea946a370707315ab774432963ce47291946 upstream.

Fix an edge case in __mark_chain_precision() which prematurely stops
backtracking instructions in a state if it happens that state's first
and last instruction indexes are the same. This situations doesn't
necessarily mean that there were no instructions simulated in a state,
but rather that we starting from the instruction, jumped around a bit,
and then ended up at the same instruction before checkpointing or
marking precision.

To distinguish between these two possible situations, we need to consult
jump history. If it's empty or contain a single record "bridging" parent
state and first instruction of processed state, then we indeed
backtracked all instructions in this state. But if history is not empty,
we are definitely not done yet.

Move this logic inside get_prev_insn_idx() to contain it more nicely.
Use -ENOENT return code to denote "we are out of instructions"
situation.

This bug was exposed by verifier_loop1.c's bounded_recursion subtest, once
the next fix in this patch set is applied.

UPSTREAM: selinux: fix inconsistency between inode_getxattr and inode_listsecurity
commit a9ffe682c58aaff643764547f5420e978b6e0830 upstream.

When inode has no listxattr op of its own (e.g. squashfs) vfs_listxattr
calls the LSM inode_listsecurity hooks to list the xattrs that LSMs will
intercept in inode_getxattr hooks.

When selinux LSM is installed but not initialized, it will list the
security.selinux xattr in inode_listsecurity, but will not intercept it
in inode_getxattr. This results in -ENODATA for a getxattr call for an
xattr returned by listxattr.

This situation was manifested as overlayfs failure to copy up lower
files from squashfs when selinux is built-in but not initialized,
because ovl_copy_xattr() iterates the lower inode xattrs by
vfs_listxattr() and vfs_getxattr().

Match the logic of inode_listsecurity to that of inode_getxattr and
do not list the security.selinux xattr if selinux is not initialized.

BACKPORT: selinux: reorder hooks to make runtime disable less broken
Commit b1d9e6b064 ("LSM: Switch to lists of hooks") switched the LSM
infrastructure to use per-hook lists, which meant that removing the
hooks for a given module was no longer atomic. Even though the commit
clearly documents that modules implementing runtime revmoval of hooks
(only SELinux attempts this madness) need to take special precautions to
avoid race conditions, SELinux has never addressed this.

By inserting an artificial delay between the loop iterations of
security_delete_hooks() (I used 100 ms), booting to a state where
SELinux is enabled, but policy is not yet loaded, and running these
commands:

    while true; do ping -c 1 <some IP>; done &
    echo -n 1 >/sys/fs/selinux/disable
    kill %1
    wait

...I was able to trigger NULL pointer dereferences in various places. I
also have a report of someone getting panics on a stock RHEL-8 kernel
after setting SELINUX=disabled in /etc/selinux/config and rebooting
(without adding "selinux=0" to kernel command-line).

Reordering the SELinux hooks such that those that allocate structures
are removed last seems to prevent these panics. It is very much possible
that this doesn't make the runtime disable completely race-free, but at
least it makes the operation much less fragile.
